Royce Special Equity Multi-Cap Fund
On August 19, 2011, The Associated Press published an article entitled "6 mutual funds that take an edge off volatility", written by Mark Jewell, which cites Royce Special Equity Fund as one of those six funds.
"In a market like this one, stock funds that specifically pursue strategies to limit volatility tout any success they've had achieving that goal," says Jewell, "yet there is a downside. When stocks rally, low-volatility funds are likely to underperform peers taking less-constrained approaches."
Charlie Dreifus is the Portfolio Manager of Royce Special Equity Fund. He also manages the recently-introduced Royce Special Equity Multi-Cap Fund.

The Fund invests primarily in small-cap and micro-cap stocks, which may involve considerably more risk than investing in larger-cap stocks (Please see "Primary Risks for Fund Investors" in the prospectus). As of 6/30/11, the Fund held a limited number of stocks, which may involve considerably more risk than a less concentrated portfolio because a decline in the value of these stocks would cause the Fund's overall value to decline to a greater degree.
