Royce Special Equity Fund
The April 2011 issue of Money Magazine featured an article entitled "Break From the Pack." Writer Laura Lallos points to the low costs of index funds, but suggests that "If you want to beat the market, your best bet may be a truly active fund manager."
Five funds from the "Money 70" list were cited, including Royce Special Equity Fund, which is managed by Charlie Dreifus. Dreifus also manages the newly introduced Royce Special Equity Multi-Cap Fund [RSEMX].Important Disclosure Information
Money Magazine selects funds for the "Money 70" list based on these criteria: only funds with lower-than-category-average expenses, good stewardship grades from Morningstar, consistent investment strategy and experienced managers are considered. Long-term performance is also considered: to initially qualify for consideration, a fund must have beaten more than half its peers during the prior five years.
This material is not authorized for distribution unless preceded or accompanied by a current prospectus. Please read the prospectus carefully before investing or sending money. The Fund invests primarily in small-cap and micro-cap stocks which may involve considerably more risk than investing in larger-cap stocks. (Please see "Primary Risks for Fund Investors" in the prospectus.) As of 3/31/11, the Fund held a limited number of stocks, which may involve considerably more risk than a less concentrated portfolio because a decline in the value of any one of these stocks would cause the Fund’s overall value to decline to a greater degree. The Russell 2000 is an unmanaged, capitalization-weighted index of domestic small-cap stocks. It measures the performance of the 2,000 smallest publicly traded U.S. companies in the Russell 3000 index.
