Greg Brown of Morningstar thinks it’s time to “revisit micro-cap funds,” given that a “recent slump could be creating some opportunity in the smallest of the small.” Brown discusses the reopening of Royce Micro-Cap Fund (RYOTX), and includes it on its “Short List” of names worth looking at in the micro-cap space. “Veteran manager Whitney George has been in charge since 2001…[and his] insistence on healthy balance sheets and an aversion to pricey stocks has helped the fund stay ahead of the pack,” writes Brown.
